HISTORY

In 1878 a young man by the name of Peter Scott bought a small unsuccessful knitwear mill, a risky acquisition by anyone’s standards due to the previous owner’s failure to make the business work, but as history demonstrates a risk worth taking.

With the right workforce, business acumen, skill and determination Peter Scott’s knitwear mill began to expand and by 1898 a new premise was required and the mill moved to its current location on Buccleuch Street, Hawick.

The early days saw Peter Scott manufacture woollen underwear to protect against the harsh Scottish winters, as this poem from circa 1920 explains.

He cared not for the howling wind,
E'en though he worked al fresco,
The reason for this state of mind,
His underclothes were Pesco.

Peter Scott progressed to become a world leader in the knitwear industry, continually producing garments of outstanding quality and has not faltered to this day.
